Ramblings
It’s fall y’all!
Today is the autumn equinox. The season has officially changed. It’s catching up with the weather, I’ve felt a definite chill in the air.
Fall foliage season. I read that although climate change has generally delayed fall in recent decades, this year’s dry summer is pushing the timeline up. The season will be bright, brief and early.
So we spent almost a week at a nice hotel. I felt like a princess. But there is nothing so humbling as coming home and dealing with kitty litter boxes…we all know who’s really in charge in this house, Good thing they’re so cute.
The Mets are still hanging on to a wild card position. The Ducks, alas, did not make the playoffs. Wait until next year …
Went out to lunch with friends Sunday, we are fortunate to live near the ocean and have wonderful seafood restaurants nearby.
The annual meeting of the U.N. General Assembly takes place this week. Traffic in Manhattan will be awful, especially on the East Side. Hello gridlock!
And I’m sure the meeting this year will be quite raucous. How many countries have now recognized an independent State of Palestine? I guess U.S. policy on the Middle East isn’t as important as it used to be ..,
It’s Sunday night and my house smells like gefilte fish, potato kugel and gluten-free matzo balls. Rosh Hashanah starts tonight, We’re doing dinner tonight with my family at Becca’s — she lives on the East Side, about 15 blocks from the U.N., so parking is going to be fun. Tuesday night Drew and I are hosting.
Tonight I am thinking about Rosh Hashanah in 2015. My father spent the holiday in the hospital. We did not know it then, but it would be his last Rosh Hashanah. He died the day after Simchat Torah, the holiday that ends the High Holy Days. Hard to believe it’s been 10 years.
I’ll never forget the kindness of the Rabbi who visited his hospital room, said a few prayers, and wished us all a happy new year.
So let me take this opportunity to wish the same to you. L’Shanah Tovah. A sweet new year.
