Baseball is Back! (sort of)
So on Friday night Drew and I headed over to Fairfield Properties Ballpark, hoping to see a baseball game, the home of our own Long Island Ducks.
(I am so glad they changed the name of the ballpark. I was tired of explaining that Bethpage Ballpark was in Central Islip, not in Bethpage -- corporate sponsor used to be Bethpage Federal Credit Union.)
The Ducks play in the Atlantic League, which did not have a season last year because of the pandemic. There are some changes this year as we still deal with the virus, but overall we anticipate a fairly normal season.
Friday night was Opening Night, the Ducks raised their banner to celebrate their 2019 championship. And the first 1500 fans received replicas of the Ducks' championship rings.
But the weather ...
Bummer about the rain. Maybe next game will have better weather.
ReplyDeleteThat weather wasn't too summerly, was it? Too bad you missed the home opener. I haven't been to a ballgame in several years. One minor good came from the pandemic, though - Baseball abandoned plans to discontinue our AA team (the Rumble Ponies), at least for now. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI'm suprised that they had minor leagues in New York City.

The Ducks are a suburban team. Wait until I tell you about the Brooklyn Cyclones, they play in Coney Island. Though the Staten Island Yankees have closed up shop ...
