Ramblings

Sometimes the simplest meal is the best … I bought some ready to eat polenta, a jar of marinara sauce, frozen meatballs, and frozen cauliflower.  Heated it all in the microwave.  It was an interesting dinner.

We went to the Ducks games Wednesday night and last night, and we will be going again tonight.  We didn’t go Thursday night.  Ironically that’s the night Jen went to the game with her coworkers.

We were home that night, watching the Mets lose to the Marlins in one of the sloppiest games I’ve ever seen. Five unearned runs …

Remember last summer I talked about the sad house?  I encountered the house during one of my walks.  It’s about a mile east of here.  There was a fire at the house, and now it’s all boarded up. It’s been a year, and it’s still boarded up.

On Thursday I walked south.  About a mile from here I found an even sadder house,  There was a fire a few weeks ago.  The damage to this house is worse than the other house.  I could also see the owner’s car in the carport, also charred and destroyed.  And there was damage to one wall of the next-door neighbors’ house,

Scary, isn’t it?

  1. Years ago, I worked with a woman whose house burned down while she was at work (a different job). The fire was apparently traced to a lamp she had bought just a few days before. To say it's traumatic is an understatement. That second fire truly sounded scary.

    1. In my first job out of law school, we did a lot of work with insurance companies that issued homeowners policies, and claims where there’d been a house fire. We won a case where a 14 year old television cause th3 fire. Scary stuff. But I never got close to the fire sites.

  2. Fires are so scary. The condo that burned in my complex (I wrote about it on the blog) is in the process of being fixed. I wonder why the house hasn't seen any repairs in roughly the same amount of time.

  3. I bought ingredients recently for a recipe I haven't tried before. It has polenta and meatballs too! I think the sauce will be about like yours, but starts with a can of some fancy tomatoes I didn't buy, I got the cheaper ones. Probably taste the same with ready made.
