More ramblings

When I said Caladryl was my new favorite product, I wasn’t really joking.  I think I was the target of every mosquito in Heckscher Park the other night.  And my reaction to the bites was bad, worse than I’ve ever seen before.  I had to take Claritin.  According to the Cleveland Clinic, an abnormally severe reaction to mosquito bites is called “skeeter syndrome”.  I wonder …

Caught something interesting on the Ring.

Yes, the bees seem to like our yard. I like bees, as long as they keep their stingers to themselves. I got stung by something when I was 15, and my whole arm swelled.  I am not interested in repeating that experience.

We had a terrific bbq Saturday.  Far too much food (the grill was great!), good weather and good company.  Can’t wait to do it again Labor Day weekend.

When Bill Levitt planned and built this community, he added 9 pools that are for the exclusive use of families living within his planned community. (I don’t say “Levittown” here, because some Levitt houses and facilities are in Hicksville, and some parts of Levittown are not within the pool district.) Yesterday I walked to the closest pool — it’s about 8-10 minutes …for my first swim of the summer.  It was great, but I really need to work on my endurance.  When I was a kid I swam like a fish.  Now, not so much.

I intend to use my pool pass a lot this summer.

Also in the works: Drew agreed to go with me to Jones Beach to walk on the boardwalk.  We’ve gone there together occasionally, but I’d like to make it a weekly event.

  1. Never heard of "skeeter syndrome" before. ... I am scared of a bee sting!

  2. Community pools are great. Before moving to OR we lived in a neighborhood with one. It had a small playground park area outside the pool area too. It was nice once my kids were old enough to go on their own! Just a couple blocks away. We rented (for almost 30 years! ) and the owner paid the pool dues. It was part of their home owner dues, even though it wasn't an HOA.

    1. Ours are maintained by local government. Residents pay an additional fees their property tax bill.

  3. Perhaps about 10 years ago (in my 60's) I started to have reactions to some (not all) mosquito bites. I was told to take the generic Cetirizine (Zyrtec) for it, which seems to work. I looked up skeeter syndrome - I must be having a relatively mild reaction and, in my case, it seems to be in less than the 8 to 10 hours after the bite appears. I don't envy you, especially with the issue you have with bees.
