Saturday 9

Since U Been Gone

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Since U Been Gone (2005)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Kelly Clarkson is dissatisfied with her relationship and she's moving on. What's something you've moved on from lately? It could be anything from a romance to the laundry detergent you've been using for years.

I had a rather nasty encounter with another member of a Discord group and decided to leave the group.  I haven’t missed that group.

2) She sings that she can now breathe. Studies have shown that July can be a good month for allergy sufferers because trees and grasses are no longer pollinating. How are your eyes, ears, nose and throat this morning?

I’m fine, thanks for asking.

3) Kelly complains that their romance reminds her of a "stupid love song." Let's be more positive: what love song do you associate with positive memories?

4) While Kelly's first love is music, she's established herself as a TV personality. In addition to her daytime talk show, she's been a judge on The Voice and hosted an awards show. Have you ever been on TV?

Yes, once, a long time ago.  It was summer, I was home from college, and I was interviewed by a reporter for a local cable news show.

What was the subject of the interview?

In 1981, the Northeastern United States experienced a severe gypsy moth caterpillar infestation, resulting in record-breaking defoliation of forestsThe caterpillars, also known as spongy moths, devoured leaves across millions of acres, particularly impacting oak trees. This outbreak was the most extensive recorded in the region since the introduction of the pest to North America.

We lived in a heavily-wooded area, with (you guessed it) a ton of oak trees.  We suffered from the infestation.  Our white garage doors were so completely covered by caterpillars that they appeared black.  Walking outside without a hat was an adventure.  We had to keep the cat and the dog inside the house. It was awful.

5) She has confessed a weakness for Doritos. Would we find salty snacks in your kitchen right now?

Yes.  I have tortilla chips and popcorn.

6) Kelly has found her weight the source of public debate. Are you like Kelly, whose weight fluctuates? Or does it stay stable?

Funny you should ask.  I just blogged about my weight.  Short version:  after struggling with weight my entire adult life,  I started taking Wegovy in 2022 and lost 125 pounds.   Go to my prior post for a “before and after” photo.

7) In 2005, when this song was popular, a motorist made news in Texas when he was ticketed for driving over 200 mph in a 75 mph zone. Have you ever been pulled over by the police?

Yes.  It was in September 2005.

My younger daughter’s bat mitzvah was on a Saturday night,  we spent the whole day running errands to get ready for the event, which included a synagogue service followed by a large party.

One of my errands took me to a shop about 20 miles from my house, using a highway named the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway but commonly referred to as the S.O.B.   At that time it was common knowledge that county police officers set speed traps on the S.O.B.   But I was in a hurry and I forgot…

I was able to plea bargain the ticket to a non moving violation because the officer made several errors in writing the ticket.

8) Also in 2005, Tom Cruise had a pop culture moment when he famously jumped on a sofa. Do you remember where he did this?

On Oprah, of course.

9) Random question: Tell us about a photo you wish you'd taken, but didn't.

Actually it’s a photo someone else took, but I don’t have a copy and wish I did,  Mother’s Day 1991. In the photo were my mother, my grandmother, myself and my older daughter, age 6 months.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I went and looked at your Wegovy picture! You look great! You've had no problems at all with it? My in-laws take one of those for diabetes...but the weight loss is nice too.
You asked at my blog...I did see The Beach Boys on Capital 4th. I enjoyed it so much. Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

  4. My brother tried one of those drugs - he's diabetic - and he stayed terribly sick with it and finally gave it up. He had dropped about 25 pounds and it bounced right back as soon as stopped the medication. I am glad it worked for you.
