Ramblings
Gearing up for Halloween. We’ve got a ton of candy and we’re ready for the trick-or-treaters to arrive. Since the holiday is on a Friday we anticipate a lot of activity in the neighborhood.
The holiday will be on Saturday next year. That’ll be wild.
A friend’s daughter is getting married on Halloween next year, she and her fiancé are into the spooky stuff. We’ve been told we will be invited.
I’ve circled November 4 on my calendar. Election Day means the end of the constant barrage of political ads. Living in a suburb of NYC means I have to see all the commercials for the NYC mayoral race as well as the ads for the gubernatorial race in New Jersey.
Early voting starts today, and we plan to vote today. We are voting for local offices, most notably county executive and town supervisor — we have “supervisors” instead of “mayors”. Local elections are very important but many voters focus only on the big elections, like governor or president, and skip the local elections, That’s so sad. One of the propositions on the NY ballot is to move these local elections to even numbered years, to increase voter turnout.
And soon it will be time to talk turkey Thanksgiving is five weeks away …
