Saturday 9
Like My Mother Does
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post
9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Like My Mother Does (2011)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Lauren Alaina tells us she knows she's beautiful and strong because she sees herself as her mother does. Who in your life consistently sees the best in you?
Drew.
2) She sings that her mother is her "rock." In this context, what do you think that means?
It means her mother will support her, that she can always rely on her mother
3) When Lauren performed this song in concert, she brought her mother Kristy up on stage and held her hand as she sang. Kristy said she was touched, but also embarrassed because her daughter was the entertainer, not her. Do you get shy when all eyes turn to you?
It depends on the situation.
4) Lauren began reading in pre-school and always read well above grade level. As a child, were you a big reader? Are you a big reader today?
I was a voracious reader as a child. Not as much now, I don’t always have the time.
5) According to the National Restaurant Association, we like to eat out on Mother's Day, and brunch is especially popular. If you could have whatever you want for brunch, what would you order?
Loaded question, I am gluten free for medical reasons so half of the menu is probably off limits. In my fantasy brunch I’m having waffles or pancakes , maybe French toast, in reality, we went to brunch last week and I had an omelette and home fries.
6) Mother's Day is the third biggest card-sending holiday in the US, just after Christmas and Valentine's Day. Who received the last card you purchased?
Drew
7) While flowers are the most popular Mother's Day gift, jewelry comes in second. Are you wearing any jewelry as you answer these questions? If yes, did you receive it as a gift or buy it yourself?
Let me tell you about my gold live knot earrings. I did not buy them. Nor were they a gift. I won them in a raffle.
In June 2007 my daughters’ high school sponsored a Relay for Life. That’s a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It was the first time our school had hosted this event, it was the first time I attended an ACS fundraiser.
And what made the event so meaningful … in February 2005 I was diagnosed with cancer, I had a year of hell — surgery, radiation and chemo. I was finally feeling normal again when we did the Relay. It felt like a celebration of life. But yes, I did feel a bit uncomfortable joining the other survivors as we did that first lap around the track.
And later that night, when I won the earrings, I cried.
8) According to the National Retail Federation, more and more of us are celebrating our mothers by taking her to a paint and sip event, a pottery class, or candle or soap making. Which of those four options do you think you'd enjoy the most?
Soap making
9) While there's a spike in phone traffic on Mother's Day, these days it seems the trend is texting. On holidays, do you receive more calls or texts?
Texts
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

The last cards I purchased, one went to my nephew for his 16th birthday. The other is for my father's 80th birthday, but he hasn't gotten it yet as his birthday is in 10 days.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what a big reader. This year my goal is to read 18 books. I doubt that big reader.
ReplyDeleteI was touched by your jewelry and cancer story. I went back to my old blog and saw that I was a volunteer for the Race for the Cure in 2005, along with many coworkers. I worked in the marketing department, and we had a booth for a special stamp cancellation. Beverly, a breast cancer survivor organized the collection of postal employees, and our team donated the most amount for businesses. I had the name of a few friends I was running for. My daughter went with me that year. I cried last Friday when I came out of the office and being told there was no breast cancer. I got my letter today saying the same. I am glad you are a survivor!
