Road trip, day 3 part one …and the rain came falling down
We woke up Tuesday morning to the sound of rain … WeatherBug said to expect rain most of the day…
So we headed to the art museum. Or rather, the art museums. There are two, housed in the same building.
The Decorative Arts Museum focuses on Colonial Williamsburg. Here is where you’ll learn about how the historic area was refurbished, restored and/or recreated to create a living history museum. There are displays of architecture, furniture, household items, weaponry, musical instruments, even toys.
This is the Governor’s Chair, used by the Governor to preside over events in the Capitol.
Other chairs were not quiet as fancy.
The folk art museum is a lot of fun.
I especially liked the carousel.
Drew especially liked the tall case clocks.
It’s a little less than half a mile from our hotel room to the museum, so we walked. We had umbrellas and raincoats, so it wasn’t too bad. But the walk back … the wind picked up, and the street was partially flooded, so by the time we got back to our room we felt like a couple of drowned rats.
(Funny you should mention rats …they found amazing archeological treasures in the rat holes between walls of buildings they restored…)
Back at the room we were checking the weather forecast to see if our evening activity would be canceled …we signed up for a walking tour of haunted Williamsburg.
Sure enough, it was postponed.
That looks interesting! Nice it was so close, and you went prepared for the weather. At least on the way. I hope you get the haunted tour!
ReplyDeletePerfect activity for a rainy day.
