  1. It's like my mama always said, "______________________________________________."  I don't remember an exact quote, but my mother always encouraged my sisters and me to be independent, meaning that we were able to take care of ourselves and not have to depend on a husband to take care of us.  My grandfather died when my mother was 11 years old, and my grandmother  -- an immigrant with no education or job skills -- struggled to provide for my mother and her sisters.   2. May 11th is National Eat What You Want Day. What will you be having by way of celebration?  Chocolate.  Was it even a question? 3. Describe your idea of a perfect spring day. The sun is shining, the air is balmy.  I'm going to grab a bottle of water and drive over to Jones Beach.  I'll take a nice walk on the boardwalk and then I'm going to find a seat on one of the benches to watch the waves. It's very nice here in the off season. 4. Success, fulfillment, growth,...

Music Monday

This week's theme: In honor of the debut of the Sony Betamax recorder (1975), songs from movies from the 1980’s and 1990’s Love, love, love this theme! But I got lost in the 70's, when Betamax first showed up Remember The Poseidon Adventure?   Mrs. Rosen was my favorite character. Rocky was everywhere, and so was the theme song. It was Liza's song before it was Frank's. The humor in Animal House was crude, but the music.... The theme from The Godfather was a huge hit for Andy Williams. So was the theme from Romeo and Juliet .  Cabaret was a huge hit.  Here's  Liza singing the title song Can't do this without Barbra, can we? Let's lighten it up and have some fun with Grease . And the most iconic 70's music came from Saturday Night Fever Just love watching Travolta strut.  But also And that white suit.... I could watch Travolta dance all day long....

Saturday 9

Image
Mom Welcome to  Saturday 9 . What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme! Saturday 9: Mom (2016) Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it  here . 1) Meghan Trainor's mom gets a vocal credit on this song ("featuring Kelli Trainor") because the audio of a mother/daughter phone call is included on the recording. Who is the last person you spoke to (not texted!) on the phone? A business call, nothing terribly exciting. But since Drew and I don't live together, we make it a point speak on the phone every night when we aren't together.    2) The earliest version of this ...

Wordless Wednesday

So I have been setting up my little patio.  A couple of chairs, a small table, wind chimes.   Yes, I do like peacocks. And then there are the  ornaments.   They're small, I think they're intended to decorate a flower bed. I found them in the drugstore.  I was looking for more discounted Easter candy, but couldn't find anything I wanted.  And then, in the same aisle, I found these peacocks.  Half price.  I'd never seen them before, but they had to have been in that aisle all along. I think they're meant for flower beds.  I'll find some way to use them.
