Music Monday
New year, new themes.
Today’s theme;
It’s a new month, new year. Share a once new song from any era that you immediately loved or share a more recent new release that tickles your fancy or share music by an artist that’s new-to-you. The point is it’s a new year!
Back in the ‘80’s …Broadway (Chess) meets pop (written by the guys from ABBA) meets the newest thing, a music video …
And what’s old is new again … Chess is back on Broadway.
We saw the original Broadway production and we are thinking about seeing the revival …
Now going off theme …
You know I am a huge fan of Mr. William Martin Joel. I must mention what happened this weekend. I posted very briefly about it yesterday, but let me expand on it …
As you know, Billy canceled his big summer 2025 tour due to illness. But this weekend there was a performance of a Billy Joel tribute band. Billy showed up for the concert and performed two songs with the band.
OMG he looks old and frail, and I wanted to cry … but his voice … yeah, his incredible voice …
And his daughters are getting big …

It's good to see Billy Joel performing again. Yeah, he's a few years older but honestly despite the age and his health issues he's dealt with, I think he looks pretty darn good. Those young girls are his daughter? I knew he had a few girls with Christy Brinkley but didn't know of these darling three. Thanks for sharing "Chess" with me. Very catching tune and I think it's new to my ears, too. Have a boogietastic week and new year, Robin! xo
ReplyDeleteHe’s got three daughters, Alexa Ray with Christie Brinkley and two from his current marriage. The third young lady on the stage must be a friend or relative.
DeleteBilly Joel does look 'frail' - but only when he's making his way to the piano (the medical issue he's having right now affects movement, so totally understandable). But no frailty whilst singing! :) My very first concert when I was in my early 20's was Billy Joel - thanks for sharing that! And thanks for the introduction to Chess! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I worry … Billy has a neurological impairment, Barry Manilow has lung cancer … all my favorites are getting older …
DeleteGood to see and Billy looks good. Who doesn't have mobility issues as one gets older. I wish I could be like Betty White or Dick Van Dyke but most are not as fortunate. At least he keeps moving and playing his songs. I like that first song too.
ReplyDeleteWe all grow old, and enough of us pay a heavy price for the privilege of aging. Billy Joe;'s voice is still so strong but time has more than caught up with him. I so enjoyed watching Joel's two younger daughters dancing on stage to their Dad's music. And Chess, speaking of ages ago! I love that song that became a big hit, One Night in Bangkok, both Murray Head's and the present cast's. P.S. no I'm not becoming a Swiftie, but there are a couple of her songs I really like (Shake It Off being another).
ReplyDeleteMy daughters are Swifties, so I’ve come to like her music,
