This and that

We went out to dinner Saturday night.  I specifically ordered from the gluten free menu.  Waiter messed up the order, brought me a breaded chicken cutlet instead of grilled chicken, but the manager quickly fixed the mistake.  We still tipped the waiter, but not as generously as we normally do.

New Jersey is the diner capital of the world, but Long Island runs a close second.  We went out to breakfast Sunday, to one of our favorites, Thomas’s Ham & Eggery.  They’ve been in business since 1946. It’s a very small diner, we usually wind up sitting at the counter.   They serve eggs, omelets, frittatas, etc. in a skillet.

That’s a Texan scramble and home fries.  The Texan has bacon and ham and sausage and peppers and onions, and cheese on top.  I was able to eat about 1/3 of it, brought the rest home.

We take my Prius C, the parking lot is tiny and it’s easier to park my compact than it would be to park Drew’s minivan.

Would you believe,  we still have leftover Halloween candy?  A whole bowl of Tootsie Rolls, Tootsie Pops and Starbursts.

Yeah, now you know the candy Drew likes most …

We watched America’sFunniest Videos. The show has been on the air for 35 years.  Back in the day, the show relied on people using camcorders.  Now, everyone has a smart phone.  And a lot of the videos they show are from video doorbells and security cameras.

My Ring doorbell and cameras are still entertaining.  That ginger cat is a constant visitor.  I’d be disappointed if he stopped coming around.

He arrived 7:30 last night.

And went home an hour later

Several of my neighbors posted on Ring about a guy who was checking out cars in the middle of the night.  They all posted video showing the guy in a distinctive yellow hoodie walking onto their driveways and trying to open car doors.  Luckily they all keep their cars locked.  Scary.

So … I did a thing ….I've had a cell phone for 29 years, most recently the Google Pixel 3A, which I got in 2019, to replace the Moto Z I absolutely hated.  The Pixel is old and needs to be replaced.  I’ve always  chosen android, I never considered an iPhone even though I absolutely love my iPad.  Drew has an iPhone. Jen has an iPhone.  Becca has an iPhone.  Well, they convinced me.  My iPhone will be here in the next 3-5 days. I hope I don’t regret this …

  1. Which iPhone, the 15 or 16, or something older?

  2. I didn't know America's Funniest Videos was still on, but I don't watch TV, so I don't know what's on ever! It was so funny at first, then after a few years they were mostly laughing at people falling. Hope it's back to funny. I still remember that little boy screaming his ABCs out, slowing one letter at a time! I think he prefaced it with "MY NAME IS CARLOS JONES," or similar name. Nice to get a new phone. My "new" one is an SE2020. I use it more for a camera and texting than a phone.

    1. There are some very funny videos and a lot of videos showing the usual slips, trips and falls. Some great cat videos …

  3. I have a iPhone 13mini. I hope to have it a while longer. Your 16 will work seemlessly with your iPad. You'll love it, I suspect.

  4. If you have an iPad, you probably already know some of the operating system. I love my iPhone. You might find you like it, but there will be a bit of a learning curve. (Shake your phone to undo things, like undoing whatever you typed in.)
