Saturday 9
The Rhythm of My Heart
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Before I start answering this week’s questions …
I had the pleasure of seeing Rod Stewart in concert at Jones Beach in August 2014. I had tickets to see him at Jones Beach in August 2020, but Covid … the concert was postponed until August 2022, on a day I was unable to go. (Drew went with one of our friends, brought me a t shirt.) When I heard he was going to do a stadium tour with Billy Joel this summer … they’d be in Yankee Stadium … but Billy had to cancel his concert dates because of ill health. I’m hoping Rod will come back this way soon …
5) He is proud of his luxury car collection, which includes a Rolls Royce, a Ferrari and the one rumored to be his favorite: a classic mid-70s Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopio. Looking back on years as a driver and a car owner, which vehicle is your all-time favorite?
1) Rod Stewart sings that the words "I love you" roll off his tongue. When did you most recently say, "I love you?"
Right now, as I am typing, someone small and furry is purring in my lap, and I just told her “I love you.”
2) In "Rhythm of My Heart," he recalls running down the alley with his lady love. Does your neighborhood have alleys?
No.
3) Rod is well known for his coif. Are you having a good hair day today?
No. I’m trying to grow my hair long, but right now it’s in that in-between phase, neither long nor short, where it’s impossible to do anything, and I’m constantly brushing my hair out of my eyes.
4) Rod was the youngest of 5. He remembers that, as a family, they enjoyed singing with Al Jolson records. Did your family have singalongs?
Definitely.
I bought a brand new 1995 Toyota Corolla, sand pebble beige with black interior. I drove that car for 197,000 miles, until it died in July 2016.
6) Rod turned 80 this year and he's still touring. Once known for his hard partying, he takes better care of himself now and rides a stationery bike every day. What steps do you take to keep fit?
I take walks at least 3-4 times a week, walking 2-3 miles at a time. I also do chair yoga — there are some great videos on YouTube.
7) In 1991, when this song was popular, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry died. Do you have a favorite Star Trek character?
So, Star Trek. I’ve seen every movie, including the ones with Chris Pine. I’ve see every episode of the original series, Next Generation and Voyager. I saw every episode of the 1973 animated series. Right now Drew and I are rewatching Enterprise (the Scott Bakula series), because I missed a lot of those episodes when they aired 20 years ago. We also loved Picard.
Back in college I also bought the books and went to the conventions, I was really into the show. I still have my tribble.
But strangely, I have not seen any of the rebooted series — Discovery, Short Treks, Lower Decks, Prodigy and Strange New Worlds. I plan to watch each eventually, they’re on my list.
I clearly love the Star Trek universe. But … a favorite character?
The original series second season brought us Pavel Chekov, a cute guy with a Beatles haircut and an intriguing foreign accent. He was meant to attract young, female viewers to the show. Girls like me, who watched The Monkees and were crushing on Davy Jones. I still love him.
8) Also in 1991, Seinfeld was a big deal on network television. Today the entire series is available to stream and on DVD. When you binge a show, are you more likely to pop in a disc or turn to a streaming service?
That depends. If it’s something Drew wants to see, we will probably get the disc — he’s a collector. If it’s just me, I’m more inclined to stream the show.
9) Random question: Have you ever cared for a hamster or a gerbil? (Extra non-existent Saturday 9 points for its name.)
My 4th grade teacher filled our classroom with small animals. I remember a snake, an iguana and mice. There may have been gerbils or hamsters, I really don’t remember. But 4th grade is the closest I ever came to caring for one.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!
That is great that you got to go to the concert. There are a lot of Star Trek series I did not get to see. I did see the movies with Chris Pine. One was while I was on a plant trip. I think we were coming back from Washington State after our Alaska cruise. I would love to go on another cruise. I had a Camry in the 80's.
ReplyDeleteLast night I just watched part #2 of the Billy Joel documentary. I hope he recovers and will be back onstage again soon. #6: My yoga instructor teaches chair yoga in her private practice and says it's got something to benefit everyone. Now here you are singing its praises. Maybe this is a sign from the universe that I should check it out.
ReplyDeleteI should look into chair yoga. I should do something physical.
ReplyDeleteToyota's are great!
ReplyDeleteI tell my dog I love her all day long. Pets are so sweet. Loved your answers. Have a great weekend.

Oh my you did love Star Trek! I remember watching it on TV when I was younger...much younger. Long before the movies were even thought about.
ReplyDeleteHa! #9! Hamsters and I have never gotten along. They bite me. I mean, they do tend to bite, as they are nocturnal and people want to wake them up. Even the ones in the pet store where I worked bit me! It was advised to wake them, if you must, with the eraser end of a pencil, gently of course! No. I prefer rats, other family members like Guinea pigs. No bites.
ReplyDeleteI never got into Star Trek like I have some other shows, but enough to consider myself a fan. I watched all of Voyager until it moved to a channel I could not get, so I missed at least the last 2 seasons, if not 3. Seven-of-nine had joined the crew but they'd not yet met up with the Borg when I lost the show.
