More ramblings

I try to not bring my work with me when I’m out walking through the neighborhood.  I focus on the quirky architecture, the flowers, the lawn decorations, the birds …

But sometimes lawyer brain kicks in.  Like when I tripped and fell on an uneven sidewalk back in April.  I found out that in Levittown the homeowner is responsible for maintaining the sidewalk, but does not have legal liability if someone trips and falls on the sidewalk.  The town is liable for an injury, but only if the town had notice of the defect before the accident.  So reporting a broken sidewalk is important.

But in Hicksville?  The rules are different.  The homeowner is responsible for sidewalk repair, and the homeowner is legally liable for injuries resulting from an accident.  Very different.

Another reason for knowing which side of the line you live on.

A few years ago my daughter bought me a Yeti.  At the time I really didn’t have a use for it.  But now I’m loving it.  It really keeps my coffee hot.

My very smart daughters also recommended I buy an air fryer, which quickly became my favorite kitchen appliance.

And then, a hair dryer/blow dryer brush.

I have very smart daughters.

We are getting excited for Pinafore.  Five performances are scheduled, the first on June 21 and the last on July 3, at various venues around Long Island.  I volunteered to sell tickets or refreshments. I’m a former PTA mom/dance mom/ cheer mom/Sisterhood member, I’ve spent a lot of time selling tickets and refreshments.

Of course, doing a show on July 3 means we had to move our July 4 barbecue to the 5th.  We’re expecting a larger group this time around.  We have friends who live upstate, near Corning, who will be visiting family on Long Island for the weekend, and I think they’re going to come.

We still don’t have a gas grill, but we will have one by the next barbecue. Don’t get me started on that ….

But let me circle back to the reason I love the Yeti …

I am sitting in a waiting room at a local hospital.  Drew is having an outpatient procedure.  Nothing earth shattering, but the doctor wanted to do it here at the hospital.  So I packed up my work laptop and my iPad, and filled the Yeti with coffee.  And now I’m hunkered down in the waiting room.  Sigh.  This is starting to feel far too familiar.  Getting older sucks …but it beats the alternative.

  1. I've started listening to podcasts when I walk. Walks are too long in my own head otherwise. I hope you get your gas grill soon.
