Saturday 9
Werewolves of London
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!
Saturday 9: Werewolves of London (1978)
Unfamiliar with this week's featured song? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Warren Zevon sees a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand. He wanted beef chow mein. If we Saturday 9ers got together for Chinese, what would you likely order?
Well, that depends on where we are going. I've got two favorite take-out places, one of which has Thai as well as Chinese dishes. One local restaurant has Japanese as well as Chinese dishes, the other offers a great Dim Sim menu...unless you want to head into Chinatown, I've got a great hole-in-the-wall that has been in business serving Cantonese dishes for decades.
Yeah, I like Chinese food. Let's get some steamed pork dumplings, hot and sour soup, Kung Pao chicken and pork fried rice.
2) He also says the werewolf's hair was perfect. Are you having a good hair day?
Right now I am hiding under my hoodie. But we are going out later, so I'd better do something with my hair.
3) Linda Ronstadt was a big Warren Zevon fan and recorded several of his songs. Do you have a favorite Linda Ronstadt song?
Last week I went to a concert in NYC, the Monkees Farewell Tour. Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith, the two surviving members of the group, are touring together. They told a story about a song Nesmith wrote before he joined the Monkees. The producers thought it "wasn't a Monkees song", so he gave it to Linda Ronstadt.
Here's Nesmith singing the song on the TV show...
Here's Dolenz and Nesmith ...
And of course I have to include Ronstadt's version.
4) Warren Zevon admitted being afraid of doctors and avoided check ups. Are you scared when you go to the doctor or dentist for a routine visit?
No.
5) In 1935, the movie Werewolf of London was released. Do you enjoy being frightened by scary movies?
When I was senior in high school I was dating a college guy. He took me to see Carrie, starring Sissy Spacek Piper Laurie, Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, William Katt, P. J. Soles, Betty Buckley, and John Travolta. I read Stephen King's book, so I thought I knew what to expect. Spoiler alert...that last scene isn't in the book. You know, the one where the hand reaches up from the grave. My boyfriend's friend was sitting behind us, and when the hand came out., he grabbed my shoulder...
6) In your younger days, did you ever trick or treat while dressed as a monster?
I remember trick or treating, but never as a monster. Maybe as a witch?
7) When you were a kid, what sweet treats were you happiest to receive?
Anything chocolate. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were (and still are) a favorite.
8) Can you see any Halloween decorations as you answer these 9 questions?
I have decorations in my kitchen.
There have been some great displays in my neighborhood.
9) Halloween is most popular in the United States and Canada, and isn't really celebrated at all in Japan or South Korea. How would you explain our Halloween customs to a visitor from another land?
It's all about the dark and mysterious, the spooky and weird...
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!
Thanks for sharing the "Different Drum" clips! Happy to hear Micky is still in great voice.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely everyone mentions such terrific Chinese dishes this morning. I can't wait for lunchtime! I'm definitely inspired to order Chinese.
Your neighborhood is far more sophisticated in Halloween decorations than mine. We've got some tombstones and quite a few pumpkins, but that's it.
#3 I heard that a couple of years ago and I was amazed. I think that it was one of her best songs <3
ReplyDeleteWow you have some great displays in your neighborhood! And I didn't know that story about Different Drum! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, the Carrie story! I would have screamed! hahahaha
