Sunday brunch
Brunch at our favorite diner, Thomas’s Ham & Eggery. Place has been in business since 1946. First time we tried it was in 2016.
Their specialty is egg dishes — omelettes, scrambles and frittatas — served in a skillet with home fries and toast. They do all sorts of variations on eggs Benedict. Interesting pancakes and waffles.
There’s always a wait to get in. Due to COVID the queue has become virtual. We sat at the counter to avoid having to wait for a table. Barstool-type seating, you have to climb up to sit.
The owner wasn’t there today. He’s usually around, he has such pride in his establishment.
I had a Spanish omelette, Drew had one with sausage and cheese. We split a side order of bacon. Brought half our food home.
And getting down from my seat, I slipped …and fell right into a busboy.
So embarrassing.
But we made sure to tip well. The waitstaff and busboys work so hard.
A few years ago, during a wonderful breakfast, we watched in horror as the women at the next table (it was before the term “Karen” came into vogue, but you know the type) abused a busboy. We felt so bad, we gave the guy a few extra dollars.
Years ago we ate breakfast out every weekend. Would have loved a place like that. As for anyone who would abuse restaurant staff at any time but especially now...people still don't understand. I was researching a vacation and possible places to eat, and over and over, on restaurant Facebook pages....we closed early due to lack of staffing, we have lots of vacancies...didn't matter where, was the same story everywhere. People just don't understand cause and effect. Respect to those staying on the job.
ReplyDeleteExactly. These people work hard so we can enjoy a meal
DeleteI'm a fan of omelette. But I have watch how much cheese I put on it.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
My Spanish omelette had veggies but no cheese
DeleteThat sounds like my kind of place. Sorry you fell. Glad you didn't hurt yourself (or the busboy).
