The chutzpah award!
My next-door neighbors won the chutzpah award yesterday.
I don’t really talk to any of my neighbors. I barely know who they are.
There’s a fence that separates my driveway from the house next door, and my neighbor planted all sorts of bushes and shrubs along the fence. Sometimes he comes into my driveway to trim the bushes. His name is Tom, he’s been living in that house for 26 years. I’ve spoken to him once or twice, I’ve never met his wife.
I met the man whose back yard borders my own. His kids were playing in their yard and their ball came over the fence. He rang my bell and asked if he could retrieve the ball. It was the only conversation I ever had with him, though I frequently see him and his family in their yard,
But my other next-door neighbors …
When we first moved into the house last year, the property manager asked to avoid parking in front of the neighbor’s house. Apparently there were issues between the neighbors and the prior tenant in this house. We assured her we wouldn’t park there. We have two cars and our driveway can accommodate four cars.
After we moved into I realized why parking was such an issue for those neighbors. They own more cars than their driveways (yes, they have two driveways) can accommodate, and always park at least one car in the street.
Not my circus, not my monkeys.
These are the neighbors who did this last winter …
We shoveled the sidewalk all the way to the property line, they did not.
Turning to yesterday’s events …
There is a tree in my neighbor’s yard, a rather large tree whose branches extend into our yard. To be honest, I was becoming concerned, because on windy days I thought the branches were actually hitting our house, and I was hoping they’d get a tree service to trim the branches. But I would have appreciated a heads-up …
Instead I woke up at 7:30 yesterday to the sound of a chainsaw outside my window, with workmen conversing in Spanish. At the same time my Ring camera advised me that there were people in my yard.
Looked out the window and saw this:
Yeah, they’re in my yard, standing on my shed.
So finally they finished trimming the branches (yay!).
So I went into my kitchen to make a cup of coffee. And that’s when I heard…the grinding sound.
My kitchen windows face the street. This is what I saw:
They were gone by 8:30.
I’m glad the tree was trimmed, but OMG …
A heads-up would have been nice, but considering who they are, not surprising you didn't get one.
