And still more ramblings
The house that I kept talking about, the one where the Christmas decorations stayed up until Good Friday? There’s a huge “congratulations graduate” display on the lawn. I think it might be a college graduation, there’s no indication of which school they’re graduating from. I’ll try to post a picture later.
We went out to dinner Saturday night. Nothing fancy, just a casual sit down place. A chain restaurant. No reservations, but you can join the waitlist on the website and wait in your car, they’ll text you when your table is ready. They started doing this during Covid to keep the waiting area from getting overcrowded. Just another way the pandemic changed all our lives. Drew watched on his phone as we went from #19 to #18 to #15 on the list …until finally our table was ready.
The place also has a gluten sensitive menu. Much appreciated.
The restaurant was in Farmingdale, just down the road from Republic Airport. It’s a small, regional airport, not a lot of traffic, but I did see few small, private jets take off.
There used to be a restaurant at the airport. It was called 56th Fighter Group and it had a WW II theme. You could watch planes take off and land while eating dinner. It closed about 12-13 years ago. It was a fun restaurant and I miss it.
The gas grill is supposed to (finally) show up Monday afternoon. Fingers crossed. But we’re holding on to the charcoal grill, too.
Meanwhile, my car … Sunday night my dashboard lit up with a warning that I should pull over and not drive the car. I had it towed. I’m hoping the repairs won’t be too costly.
Did you catch the Tony Awards? Lots of wonderful performances, of course. Drew’s jaw dropped open during the performance from Pirates, A Penzance Musical, a weird adaptation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s operetta.
Yes, if you know the score, you recognize that part of the performance includes music from Pinafore. We looked up a list of musical numbers in the current production. Drew tells me that the production actually uses material from five different operettas. I’m sure there’s going to be some interesting discussions at Tuesday night’s rehearsal.
Also got to see the preview for Wicked:For Good.
I can’t wait until the movie arrives in November.
But let’s not rush the season. It’s summer, and I’ve got a lot of things planned …
We all need to eat out every so often.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for your grill. Sounds like you've got a fun summer planned.
ReplyDeleteI have a regular charcoal grill, but it's usually too hot outside to use it! I have a fire pit too, same thing.
