Florida Vacation -- our accommodations
Before I continue with the Disney portion of our vacation, I thought I'd discuss our accommodations.
So, as I mentioned earlier, we stayed at a friend's vacation home in a resort community. Regal Palms.
This is a small gated community comprised of townhouses. The community's amenities include a pool/lazy river/water slide, a hot tub, a spa, a fitness center and a restaurant and bar. We ate dinner in the restaurant the first night we stayed at the complex -- it was very basic, but the food was decent -- but never managed to find time to use any of the other amenities.
Our friend's townhouse is an end unit, which makes it one of the larger houses in the complex. The main level has a living room/dining room, a nicely-equipped kitchen, a master bedroom with a full bath, and a powder room. Sliding doors lead to a small patio behind the house.
There is a second master bedroom/bathroom upstairs, which includes a small balcony. Two additional bedrooms share a second full bath.
The driveway can accommodate two cars.
Way more space than the two of us needed, of course, and we would not have chosen to stay there if it wasn't our friend's home, but the house is ideal for families.
There is a Publix supermarket and a CVS drugstore within walking distance, and the most direct route to Disney takes you past numerous chain restaurants, gift shops, etc. All very convenient.
Our GPS frequently took us to Disney via back roads to avoid traffic, and it appears there is a lot of construction going on in that part of the region -- lots of vacation homes, resort communities, etc.
We loved having a full kitchen, even though we only used it for breakfast and snacks, and we loved the convenience of having our own washer and dryer.
(Though the washing machine proved too complicated for Drew...it's a new machine, one with sensors...he did not realize that if you open the machine after you start a wash, the machine thinks you're adding clothes, and starts the wash cycle all over again...after that fiasco, I was the only one who did laundry....)
By the end of the trip Drew and I were seriously contemplating buying a townhouse similar to the one our friend owns.

That sounds like a wonderful vacation accomondation. One thing I would mention (as both my husband and I have some knee issues) is that if we were buying a new place, we would only consider a single level apartment or condo. Funny how your perspective changes as you enter the senior years, as my husband and I have. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteNot having to stay in a hotel was probably the best part.
ReplyDeleteThere sure a lot a more option for the traveler now.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
A lot of the houses we saw in the area are single-level, with no basement. which would have been lovely -- the townhouse has 10 foot high ceilings, and the stairs to the upper level are a killer.
