Florida vacation day 5 — Hollywood Studios
Today’s playlist
Hooray for Hollywood
You’ve Got a Friend In Me
Theme from Star Wars
Walk This Way/Dude Looks Like a Lady -- Aerosmith
Flying Purple People Eater --Sheb Wooley
Yes, that's the Chinese Theater in the background:
One of the best rides in this park is Tower of Terror. You get a ghost story and a freefall ride.
Yep, the back row again.
Rock 'N' Roller Coaster is an indoor roller coaster with an Aerosmith theme.
The concept is that you've dropped into the recording studio where Aerosmith is working,
and you take a stretch limo to the concert. You hear Aerosmith music while you're riding. (I expected to hear "Walk This Way", but for some reason we got "Dude Looks Like A Lady" instead.) The theming hasn't changed since the ride opened in the 1990's, and needs to be updated; we rode this on 3/26, Steven Tyler's 71st birthday, but the film clip of him showed a much younger man.
Of course we had to see the Muppet 3D show. This attraction was designed by Jim Henson, and has all the zaniness yo'd expect from the Muppets. But the 3D technology is very dated...
Lunch was at the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. You sit at tables that are designed to look like classic cars while you watch the trailers from very bad science fiction movies of the 1950's and 1960's. the food is ok but not spectacular, the real draw is the movie clips and cartoons. We both had cheeseburgers and very thick milkshakes.
Disney won't be opening the new Star Wars attractions until the fall, but it seems as if Star Wars has already taken over the park. We didn't bother with any of the shows -- they perform on the central stage throughout the day -- but we did ride Star Tours, a flight simulator.
And yes, there were storm troopers on Hollywood Blvd.
We did spend some time in Toy Story Land, of course. I love the theming there! We rode Toy Story Mania, which is set up as a 3D arcade shooting game, and then we tried Slinky Dog Dash, a family-friendly roller coaster. Both were fun.
You can see some of what's going to be the new Star Wars attraction from Toy Story Land.
Dinner at Hollywood &Vine. The buffet was OK, the real draw is the character interaction:
We had debated about which show to see after dinner -- Fantasmic! or Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular. It's almost impossible to see both the same night...
We wound up skipping the shows and going home early...we were both under the weather and decided an early night was in our best interests.
Shoutout to my facebook friends who helped me find some Advil when my knee started killing me.
Slacker walked only 7.46 miles that day.

But I bet those 7-something miles felt like nothing. Great pics with the characters.
ReplyDeleteAll those Disney characters. I think I like Daisy Duck the most. Do the characters talk as well as hug? I know how Donald sounds, but I don't think I ever heard Daisy talk.
ReplyDeleteNo, they don’t talk. Face characters, like the princesses, can speak, though.
