another this and that
So spring has finally arrived. The forsythia are in bloom, and I've seen a few daffodils. I am so happy for the warmer weather.
We saw Shazam this weekend. D.C. is finally getting away from the "dark" superhero/comic book movies, and is back to making movies that are fun. the hero, Shazam, turns out to be a 14 year old boy with a torubled past, which lends itself to a lot of humor.
Of course, watching that movie only whetted my appetite for the long-anticipated Avengers: Endgame. Sadly, it looks like opening weekend is already sold out, and we may have to wait awhile to see the film.
I've been seeing a lot of movie/TV production trailers around the neighorhood. I don't know where they're filming these days, but it can't be too far away. I haven't seen any actors near these trailers, but my coworker saw Nicole Kidman shooting a scene not too far from here.
We had our annual wine tasting event at the synagogue on Sunday. When i say "kosher wine" your first thought is probably "Oh, yes, that's heavy, sweet Concord grape wine". The truth, however, is that kosher wines include many fine vintages from all over the world. Want a cabernet? Merlot? Chardonnay? Riesling? Maybe a prosecco...Wine being central to the observance of Passover, we've created an annual fundraising event where a kosher wine merchant brings samples to our synagogue, and where the synagogue collects a portion of the price of each bottle of wine that is sold. My job is to provide snacks to go along with the wine -- cheese, crackers, hummus, some grapes, crudite... Makes for a pelasant afternoon, and I don't have to shop for wine for the Seders.
Passover is April 19 and 20 this year (coinciding with Good Friday/Easter weekend), so for the next couple of weeks I will be a bit preoccupied with the holiday. The Exodus from Egypt and the giving of the Law at Mount Sinai are the defining moments of Jewish history, so Passover (which commemorates the Exodus) is the quintissential Jewish holiday. the rituals and traditions of the holiday are observed mostly in the home, not the synagogue, making Passover one of hte most-observed Jewish holidays. I'm really looking forward to celebrating the holdiay.

Happy holiday. That is a great way to get the wine you need.
