Take Me Out To The Ball Game a/k/a Yes, We Are Crazy

So, if you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, you know that I am a fan of the Long Island Ducks, who play baseball in the independent Atlantic League.

The league championship is a best-of-five series where the winner of the North Division faces the winner of the South Division.  The Ducks won the North Division, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs took the South.

So the first two games were played in Maryland, and the Ducks won both.

Gane three was set for Long Island tonight, with Game four tomorrow (if necessary) and Game five Sunday (if necessary).

We bought tickets for Games three and four. We planned to go to the Renaissance Faire Sunday, unless there was a Game five.

But then … the forecast called for a nor’easter to hit the region this weekend.  A bad storm, with high winds, rain, and flooding, to start late Friday evening and to continue throughout the weekend.  Most weekend events — concerts, sporting events, fans and festivals— cancelled or postponed activities planned for the weekend.

But the Ducks and the Blue Crabs were determined to play Friday night. So not only were the ducks under pressure to win the championship m they were under pressure to do it in three games to avoid the bad weekend weather.

The weather Friday was overcast and windy.  We dressed in layers and headed to the ballpark to hang with our fellow crazy fans,

The weather …

Windy but dry.  The game began,

The mascot Quackerjack

And a bit of light rain

At sunset, a rainbow over center field (I’ll show more of this on Skywatch Friday)

Then the rain got heavier

So they played in the rain.

Final score

And then

My song

And when the adrenaline high wore off, we were cold and wet …had to stop for coffee on the way home …

Saw some downed trees during the drive home.

And now we hunker down and wait for the storm.
