Jewish Heritage Night

So, as you know, we are Long Island Ducks fans, we attend at least 7 or 8 games per season. And one of our “can’t miss” games is Jewish Heritage Night. It’s sponsored by Long Island’s various Jewish Community Centers.

This year was a bit different from previous years, this year was more somber.   This was the first time they held the event since the terror attack on October 7.

Amid rising antisemitism from the left as well as the right, we gathered at that ballpark to celebrate our Jewish identity.

And among us were the parents of Omer Neutra, a Long Island native now a hostage in Gaza.  You may have seen them at the RNC.  If not, you’ll be able to see them at the DNC this week. They spoke so eloquently about their son and the need to bring the hostages home.(we got reminders on the scoreboard throughout the game.)

And then the Cantor stood up to sing both Hatikva  and The Star Spangled Banner and I was quite literally in tears.

The team was wearing special jerseys.

It was interesting to see those Jewish stars on everyone’s back.

For the most part it was a typical Sunday at the ballpark.  Pennants flew, our mascot Quackerjack did his thing ..,

There was even some fun Jewish-themed stuff.

And there was swag.  The Ducks gave out baseballs.

And I picked up some interesting posters.

Unfortunately the Ducks lost.  But it was a fun night.

I didn’t video the Cantor, so I will leave you with this version:
