Music Monday
Who can pull off seven arena concerts in the NYC area in two weeks? Two concerts at Madison Square Garden, two at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, one at the Prudential Center in Newark, and two at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island? Who can fill seven arenas? Who could possibly manage it?
And we saw the March 5 show at the Coliseum.
Sir Elton told us that his first concert in the NYC metropolitan area was at the Coliseum in 1972, the year it opened. So it’s only fitting that his final NYC area shows were also at the Coliseum.
And OMG, Drew bought FLOOR SEATS! Seven rows from the stage.
There was lots of glitter, of course. Sequins and rhinestones and feather boas — and that was just the audience.
The view from our seats.
This last one is from the projection screen …
He opened with “Benny and the Jets”. His last two songs were “Your Song” and the obvious “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. He sang for an hour and a half, no intermission. He did most of his hits (here’s the Setlist) but time did not permit him to perform every song you’d want to hear.
The tour continues across the country, with his last American concert set for Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles in November.
So today I will play some of my favorite Elton John songs.
Fabulous photo captures! That had to be an awesome concert. Elton John has always been one of my favorite artists. He deserves to slip into retirement where he can enjoy doing other things away from the bright lights and attention. His music will play for decades to come. Thanks for hitting the dance floor, my dear. Have a boogietastic week!
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a chance to see him. I bet it was a great show.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! And oh, that setlist. Swooning. Some of my all time favorite Elton John songs: Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Candle in the Wind...what a memory for a lifetime. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
