Saturday 9
Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every
Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme.

BIRTHDAY (2014)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) In this song, Katy Perry sings that she wants to give her lover something good to celebrate every day. What is making you happy this fine Saturday?
Well, let's start with ... it's the weekend! And it's almost spring!
2) The video is all about baking a birthday cake. When did you most recently enjoy something home baked? Were you the baker?
I've actually been doing a bit of baking lately. Nothing fancy. Most recently it was a batch of brownies.
3) Tell us a memory from one of your birthdays. My birthday is in February, just a few days after Valentine's Day and usually near President's Day. For my 40th birthday I took my 9 year old and 7 year old daughters to Walt Disney World in Florida. We stayed at the Polynesian Resort and we celebrated my birthday at the Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom, a character dinner with Winnie the Pooh and his friends.
4) This week's song shares nothing but the title with a Beatles song. (Here's a video of Paul McCartney performing it live.) Can you think of another title that's been used by more than one song?
Love, love, love Sir Paul.
But here are two different songs with the same name:
5) Similarly, this week's featured artist was born Kathryn Hudson and called Katy Hudson until she changed her name to Katy Perry to avoid confusion with the actress Kate Hudson. Have you ever met anyone else with your same name?
More than once, actually. My first name, Robin, was very popular when I was a child. My maiden name, Cohen, is the Jewish equivalent of Smith or Jones. There was another Robin Cohen in the town where I grew up, two years younger than me, but she went to a different school. There was a Robin Cohen a year ahead of me in college; the computer was able to keep us separate until she graduated. And last year I met a woman whose maiden name was Robin Kohen.
I consider myself fortunate, nothing bad ever happened to me because of another Robin Cohen...when I was in law school I dated a man named Marc Cohen, When he was an undergrad, he was one of five men named Marc or Mark Cohen enrolled at that school. One of the others committed a felony, and my friend Marc was arrested...
6) Katy and actor Orlando Bloom became parents to a baby girl in 2020. Bloom is best known for his work in the Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Are you a fan of either of those film series?
Of course, loved both series!
7) In 2014, the year this song was popular, Prince William toured the United States and attended his first NBA game (Nets vs. Cavaliers). What's the most recent sporting event that you watched?
I'm a baseball fan. Most recent game I watched was a replay of a Mets classic. Now that spring training has begun, I expect to see more games.
8) Also in 2014, Joan Rivers died. While best-known for making us laugh, she was a very successful entrepreneur, selling jewelry on QVC. Have you ever ordered anything from TV?
I loved Joan. I may have purchased something in a store that was labeled "As Seen On TV", but no, I don't think I ever ordered anything from TV.
9) Random question -- Have you ever been told you talk too much?
Frequently.
Love both of those songs! Ashamed of myself that I didn't think of them!
ReplyDeleteHow scary for your friend Marc. I hope it wasn't too complicated, getting extricated from that.
And YES! Baseball!
Your 40th birthday sounds splendid! Great way to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteYour birthday getaway sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat is terrible about your friend Marc! How scary. Loved your answers. Have a nice weekend.

I wanted to do a sister trip to Disney for my 50th birthday--but alas, we couldn't coordinate. Yours sounds like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth was fairly popular when I was going through school, hence why my online is Liz A. I frequently had to add the A to differentiate myself. Alas, my last name is not that common. One day I was covering a class and a student asked if I was related to my SIL and niece. Just via my last name. Because, yeah, pretty much anyone in the area with my last name is a relative.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had no name mix ups with your same-named classmate.
It been ages since I baked.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
What a great way to celebrate a birthday!
ReplyDeleteThe only "Songbird" that I knew of, and even can sing, was the one that Stevie Nicks sang - never knew there was another.
So, Thank you!
That name, Cohen, was a famous one in music actually, and you probably know all about it. lol
one of them, Leonard Cohen, practically carried the entire song writing world forward at one point. I love his songs.
Your 4th birthday sounds like a dream! I spent my 60th birthday at Disneyland and I had a blast. We got to go on a tour of Walt's home at the park. We also got VIP seats to see the fireworks and we saw George Lucas seated a few seats ahead of us. I love Barbara's music!
