hard to believe it, but...
Today is Tu B'Shevat, the Jewish New Year for Trees.
With all the snow still on the ground, it's hard to think about an Arbor Day- like holiday, a day which signifies the first blooming of trees in Israel.
Custom is to eat fruit, especially fruits that grow in Israel, and/or to eat a fruit you haven't eaten in awhile. Some people also plant trees.
The Kabbalists even created a Tu b'Shevat Seder, similar to what we do at Passover, but focusing on agriculture and renewal.
So with another snow storm predicted for tonight....I hold out hope that spring will eventually come...
