ice, ice baby …

If you’ve been following the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping story, you heard that it took the FBI 10 days to retrieve the footage from her Google Nest cameras.  You need an active subscription to the service if you want to store footage, and she didn’t have one, but fortunately Google was able to locate and retrieve the images. Hopefully the footage helps law enforcement find her and the people who took her.

I mention Guthrie because even though I love my Ring cameras, they are not perfect.  Far from it,  actually.  They run on batteries and they are connected to my WiFi.  And sometimes they miss things.

Like this morning.  I went outside to collect our newspapers — Drew is very old school and likes to read an actual paper, though I prefer read the news on line.  The cameras froze just as I opened the door to step outside. So they missed it.

Yes, they missed it …

The weather has changed, our daily temperatures are above freezing.  So the snow is starting to melt …

But at night, the temperatures fall again.  Leading to …

ICE.

Not the political kind. Just frozen H2O.

A thin sheet of ice on the driveway, so thin I didn’t see it.

You know where this is leading …

Yes, it happened.  As I was walking on the driveway, between the two cars…I slipped and fell.

Fortunately I fell on my well-padded rear, so I’m not really hurt.  Just a few small bruises.

I held onto one of the cars to keep from falling again, collected my papers and went back inside.

And none of this was captured by our cameras.  I don’t know whether to be disappointed or relieved.

But what was captured a few minutes later?

Me, spreading ice melt all over the driveway.

I hope the mail carrier and the Amazon delivery person appreciate it …
