Music Monday

I misspoke yesterday.  Today is another “your choice” week; parody is next week.

Steve Lawrence passed away on March 7 at the age of 88. He earned fame both as a solo artist and as part of a duo with his wife, Eydie Gorme.  She passed away in 2013.

As I mentioned on a recent Saturday 9, my late mother-in-law claimed kinship with Eydie.  She always told us that she and Eydie were cousins.  Both were Sephardic Jews from the Bronx.

Steve Lawrence was as Ashkenazi Jew from Brooklyn.

So let’s salute the music of Steve and Eydie.

  1. How sad! I hadn't heard this news. Steve passed away on what would've been my late FIL's 101st birthday. I always enjoyed listening to Steve and Eydie. A couple of years ago DH got one of their Christmas albums (streaming) for me. It's just terrific, too. Great musical tribute! May he RIP finally with his bride after all these years.

  2. I heard about him passing. What a great tribute to a legend.

  3. I live your tribute to him and he was a pretty good actor appearing in Colombo to many appearances on the Carol Burnett show. Edie had a superb voice that, I think, she hushed it a bit in her duets with Steve. The last one made me smile because of the 70s look and taking the Beatles song into their own.

  4. Thank you for including "This Could Be The Start Of Something." Steve Allen was a great sngwriter, and that might be his best composition. Steve was almost a teen idol back in the early '60's. Sad to think that both of them are gone now, but thanks for remembering they lived.

  5. Lovely post both posts and videos are great. I loved the background history and the fact your late MIL was related to Eydie Gorme just lovely they were a great pair.

  6. Oh no, I hadn't heard, either. I remember both of them well from my childhood - I enjoyed hearing Blame It on the Bossa Nova and Go Away Little Girl - brought back memories of listening to these songs as a child. This Could Be the Start of Something Big, too. Their cover of the Beatles, and that set design! Yes, another great talent gone. We are losing a lot of great talents of my growing up years, which, alas, is all part of life.
