Afternoon walk

It feels like spring today, warm and sunny.  A perfect day for a walk.  I walked in my neighborhood.  Fitbit says I walked for about 2 1/2 miles.

I’ve discussed my neighborhood here and here.  Levittown is the quintessential planned suburban community, the prototype for suburban development in the post war era.  I love walking through a Levitt neighborhood and seeing all the alterations and embellishments made since the homes were built in the late 40’s and early 50’s.

One house I really like added a roof deck over the garage.

It doesn’t look like it’s a usable deck, but it does add something to the appearance of the house.

But if I walk a bit north, the neighborhood changes …

Instead of winding lanes typical of a Levitt development, the streets are laid out in a grid pattern.  Most of the houses were built in the late 50’s and early 60’s.

But occasionally you find something a bit older.

This house was built in 1930, when the neighborhood was part of a sleepy farming community.

Now that spring is here I’ll be walking through the neighborhood more often.

  1. I do like that garage deck. We have some old farmhouses in the neighborhood, they stick out like a sore thumb now. Some are kept up and cute, others not so much.

  2. It's fun to look at the various houses in the neighborhood. You've got quite the mix.
