 And the theme:

Alana suggested “Misheard Song Lyrics”.  For instance, a song lyric you’ve misheard or is commonly misheard  i.e. CCR’s Bad Moon Rising (“there’s a bathroom on the right”) .  Let’s keep it family friendly!

This one sounds like fun.  Nowadays you can Google the lyrics, even find the official lyrics video.  But back in the day, before the internet, you’d hear a song (or perhaps mishear it) on the radio and hope for the best.

Let’s start with Aretha Franklin.

Though some listeners hear the legendary singer say, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, take out T-C-P,” she is actually singing, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, take care, TCB.”

Then there’s Uncle Kracker

Some fans claim that they hear, “Give me the Beach Boys and free my soul,” instead of the actual lyric, “Give me the beat, boys, and free my soul.”

(This song was popular when my kids were teens.  They had no idea it was a cover or why mom knew all the words.)

Let’s talk about Toto

The song’s correct lyric is, “There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do,” but some listeners mistake it as, “There’s nothing that a hundred men on Mars could ever do.

Europe

Though some listeners may have heard, “We’re working for peanuts,” the correct lyric in the band’s song is, “We’re heading for Venus.”

Elton John

The singer’s line, “Hold me closer, tiny dancer,” from his song is sometimes sung as, “Hold me closer, Tony Danza,” but that’s not correct.

Queen

While some fans may sing, “Kicking your cat all over the place,” the actual lyric in the rock band’s song is, “Kicking your can all over the place.”

The Monkees

The band sings, “Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer,” but some listeners have misheard it as, “Then I saw her face, now I’m gonna leave her.”

And last but not least, Mr. Billy Joel

The song’s correct lyric is “Begin, Reagan, Palestine, Wheel of Fortune, Sally Ride,” but some have misheard it as “Bacon-making Palestine/We love torture, Sally Ride.”

  4. I love your choices! I literally LOL'd at the Monkees one. And of course, I had to listen to the songs and purposely hear the misheard lyrics. Too fun! :D

  7. What a nice selection of some of my favorite songs. Actually, Tiny Dancer has been an earworm for me since I wrote my post and I'm hoping playing it from other blogs cures me. Fun fact, I never heard the Tony Danza lyric in Tiny Dancer but for years I thought the line "lay me down in sheets of linen" was "lay me down in sheets of lemon". Another fun fact; it's Marilyn Manson holding the snake in the video.
