Weirdness at the ballpark

Image
So, Sunday afternoon at the ballpark. Cloudy day, but fortunately no rain. And there was a giveaway. A cup. Great game, even though they lost, they kept it interesting until the very end. But something weird happened.   I must be invisible.  Yeah, that would explain it. Tell me if I’m wrong.  We like to sit in the upper deck of the ballpark because it gives us access to the Duck Club restaurant.  Love that place, they have an extensive gluten free menu. There’s a small concession stand inside the restaurant, it sells popcorn, chips, candy and ice cream.  The stands downstairs have much more to offer, but if you don’t feel like going down …and there are no lines at this counter. It’s very quick, you can get your snack and go back to your seat and hardly miss a play. So I wanted ice cream, and I didn’t feel like going all the way downstairs.  Top of  6th inning ended, I went inside to order my treat. There’s a single worker upstairs.  I walke...

Music Monday

Today’s music idea was inspired by this interesting factoid found at CoolKidFacts.  The first sandwich was allegedly made on August 6, 1762, and was given the Lord of Sandwich’s name.  The dish consisted of meat placed between two slices of bread, which he requested because he was in the middle of a gambling game and did not want to interrupt it. This week’s prompt is sandwich. Build a sandwich (acrostic) with your favorite song picks, find song titles, lyrics, or band names with sandwich or items found on a sandwich. This is a lite assignment, the object is to have fun! Let’s start with Alan Jackson Do you prefer tuna? Or peanut butter Or maybe a hot dog? Don’t buy this cold cut  How about a burger?  Mmm, now I’m hungry.

Comings and Goings

We made it to Jones Beach Friday night.  The weather was great — comfortably cool and breezy, no rain in sight.  Full report on the covert coming August 9. Last night we saw the new Spider-man movie.  Fun movie.  And it laid the groundwork for the next Avengers movie, coming in December. It’s on our list.   We’re seeing a Ducks game later today.   Trevor Bauer’s contract was purchased by a team in Mexico, but nevertheless the Ducks are still having a great season.  Do you believe a .609 average puts them in second place in their division? We were supposed to see a Mets game last week, but it got rained out.  We have vouchers to exchange for another game.  We missed yesterday’s ceremony honoring the 1986 team, but I found it on YouTube. And I’m so excited.   Wicked Gluten Free  is presenting an expo at the Meadowlands in November.  We bought our tickets yesterday.  I went to their expo on Long Island in 2023, right af...

Of health and mobility

Back in December 2024 I mentioned a  friend’s medical issues .  Just a year older than I am, she was living alone when she had a medical situation that landed her in the hospital, then in a rehab facility.  I don’t think I mentioned it, but our friend never went home, she went from rehab to assisted living.  Right now she’s back in rehab, she took a fall and broke her arm. She’s going to sell her house in a few months, there’s no point in keeping it when she’s physically unable to live in it,  Drew’s sister is still in a rehab.  She was supposed to be released to an assisted living facility, but she developed another medical issue. Wasn’t it just a few years ago we were dealing with these issues for our elderly parents? Go back a few years and you’ll see my posts about Drew, his sister and his elderly uncle.  I’ve reached an age where they automatically give me the “senior discount”.   When my grandmother was my age, she was an old woman — not jus...
