Oh what a night!

Nothing like sharing a moment with 40,000 like-minded people.

I’m talking about baseball, of course.

Tuesday night’s destination.  Drive into Queens, cut through Flushing Meadow Park …

… and arrive at …

We usually park across the street from the stadium,  under the subway— the 7 train.

Citi Field is right near La Guardia, the skies are very busy.

We walked across Roosevelt Avenue to the ballpark.  There’s the home run apple from Shea Stadium.

And the statue of Tom Seaver.

Inside the main rotunda you’ll find a tribute to Jackie Robinson.

The views from our seats.

They’ve added another retired number since the last time we were here, congrats to David Wright,

Our banners proudly wave.

Tonight’s game was against the Atlanta Braves.  But there was something else on our minds: Pete Alonso.  You see, over the weekend, Alonso a/k/a the Polar Bear tied a team record.  Darryl Strawberry, who played for the Mets in the 1980’s, hit 252 home runs over the course of his career.  Alonso tied Strawberry’s record.  It was pretty much certain he’d break the record, the only question was when.

It’s a festive atmosphere at Citi Field, a near-capacity crowd of almost 40,000 fans.  Our mascots are doing their thing.

And we had mascot races — a different character for each of the five boroughs of NYC.

The subway car, representing Queens, won again.  I don’t think the Giraffe (representing the Bronx) has ever won.

The Mets got off to a rocky start, the Braves scored in the top of the first. But then, in the third inning …baseball history was made.

And if that wasn’t enough, later in the game he hit number 254.

But he wasn’t alone!  Nimmo hit a home run, Baty hit a home run, and Alvarez hit two home runs!

When a Mets player homers at Citi Field, the home run apple rises, and there is a brief burst of fireworks,  or, at least there’s supposed to be fireworks.  The apple rises 6 times, but …

Final score, Mets 13 Braves 5.

And then it was back across the street to the parking lot.  So different at night.

Baseball history was made tonight, and we were there.
