Saturday 9
gar, Sugar
Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love to answer the questions, however, and here is today's questions!
Saturday 9: Sugar, Sugar Sugar (1969)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
This month Saturday 9 will be tasty, featuring songs with food in the title.
1) This week's song is credited to The Archies, a band that never actually existed. The song is performed by singer Ron Dante and studio musicians and backup singers hired on behalf of the five members of the popular Saturday morning Archie Show. Were you a fan of this animated series?
Yes.
2) Archie was Archibald Andrews, a character first introduced in the 1941 comic strip. Archie was the linchpin, the leader of the band, and the center of his social group. Tell us about one of the popular kids from your school days.
Jeanine. 4’11”, long blonde hair, always had a boyfriend. I was so jealous,
3) The Archies' drummer was Jughead Jones. He was smart, funny, and had a fondness for headwear. Do you often wear hats or caps?
Occasionally.
4) Reggie was the lead singer and bass player. He was a gifted athlete who liked to come in first. If he couldn't win with his natural talents, he was not above cheating. Have you ever cheated in a friendly game?
Who, me?
5) Blonde Betty Cooper was on the tambourine. Her hobbies include playing baseball, caring for her cat, and helping Archie work on his car. Tell us three of your favorite pastimes.
Music and theater. I love live performances. Broadway, concerts, community theater.
Baseball. Let’s go Mets. (Yeah, they’re breaking my heart this year.)
Yoga. I started taking yoga about 10-11 years ago, then stopped. I rediscovered it this summer.
6) Raven-haired Veronica Lodge was the keyboardist and joined Betty for backup vocals. She was a fashion plate, known and loved by Riverdale store owners because of her willingness to spend big bucks to stay on trend. What's the latest thing you've added to your wardrobe?
A dress. It’s one I can wear to work in cooler weather. I got it on clearance. I love a bargain.
7) The biggest news story of 1969 was one of the biggest stories in history. On July 21, man first stepped onto the moon. Without looking it up, do you remember the astronaut's name?
I watched this live. Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins.
8) Also in 1969, Triple H was born and today he's in the WWE Hall of Fame. Do you follow professional wrestling?
Nope.
9) Random question – Would you prefer to be: a) super successful in business or b) a politician elected to an influential office or c) a champion athlete?
I love politics but I’d prefer business.
BONUS #10: Mister Linky has become extremely hard to navigate and no one is home at the Help Desk. How do you feel about leaving your link in the comments?
I am flexible. Whatever works for you.
Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!
Please include your link in the comments. Thank you.

Of course the popular girl in your school had long blonde hair and a boyfriend. They always were (are?). Remember the television and magazine ads where the blonde always got the man? And how they pushed that "blondes have more fun"? We brunettes came back with "They date a blonde, but they marry a brunette!"
ReplyDeleteI use Mister Linky only for Shadow Shot Sunday, and never had any problem. I leave my info there and just click the "generate code" button, nothing to navigate. I use a very simple Mister Linky though. My issue with leaving links with a comment is Wordpress. Too many bloggers have their settings where you have to sign in or use an email. I can't do either. I used to have Wordpress and it won't forget my email, yet finds on account. So, too many times I can't leave a comment at all.
You made me think of a girl that was in a couple of my classes in 7th grade. Sandy Morris. She had long straight blonde hair and always dresses so cool. Her shoes and purse always matched. I sat behind her. One day I started to blow her hair, gently and after a bit she turned around and looked at me. I told her she had beautiful hair and I wanted to see it move. She smiled and I stopped blowing her hair. Oh yes, the 3rd astronaut Collins, whose daughter Kate Collins was in the soap opera All My Children. I have only been to one Broadway show in NY. Phantom. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI suspect you outfoxed rather than cheated. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy cheating is always in fun--overly obvious.
ReplyDeleteMy popular girl had long straight blonde hair, too! Were they created in a lab or something? I just started doing a yoga in 2023. I'm terrible at it, but it makes me feel so much better. I wish I'd started years ago.
