Ramblings

Went out to dinner with an old friend the other day.  She and her husband are selling their house here on Long Island and moving to Niagara Falls.  Their son and daughter-in-law live in Buffalo.

So …Halloween. After two days of rain, the day dawned cold and windy. Very windy.  May be that’s why we didn’t get a lot of trick-or-treaters.  Or maybe there were other events the kids enjoyed.

I guess we’ll be eating a lot of leftover candy.

Jen stopped by for a few minutes, to change out of her work clothes and into clothes she could wear to a haunted house.  She met up with her boyfriend. (They’re going to Boston next weekend to celebrate her birthday.)

My favorite YouTuber Mr.Ballen told a really creepy story for Halloween.  Yeah, I’m a real fan of the strange, dark and mysterious.

So yesterday I mentioned the Amityville Horror.  What I didn’t mention is that I have a friend who grew up in Amityville.  She knew one of the DeFeos.  And she knew one of the kids whose family moved into the house after the Lutzes perpetrated their hoax.  People used to drive down Ocean Avenue to try to find the house (the owners changed the address and the appearance of the house), but the locals would always give the ghost chasers deliberate misdirection.

And the World Series is over.  Seven games!  Congrats to the Dodgers, that last game was a wild ride.

I don’t have any interest in professional football or basketball and only a mild interest in hockey, so I probably won’t mention sports again until spring training begins.

We turned back the clocks last night. No more Daylight Saving Time.  I think it’s time to retire changing the clocks twice a year.

But now it’s time to look forward, to November.  Daylight Saving Time ended this morning, so now it’ll get dark earlier.  Time to get out the winter coats.  Drew arranged to have the snow blower serviced this week, in anticipation of a bad winter — shoveling snow is not my thing.  My Halloween decorations are put away, I’ve started to decorate for Thanksgiving. (Of course my living Halloween decoration is still perched in my kitchen window, where she can watch the action on the street.)  most of my neighbors still have the Halloween stuff on display, but I’m sure that will change soon.   Last year there were a lot of inflatable turkeys around here.
