More Ramblings

Had an interesting visitor the other night

I’m told possums are good to have around (they eat insects, rodents and even snakes) but can be very nasty if cornered.

Had a nasty encounter with an entitled witch at the supermarket.  If you’re dropping someone off at the entrance to the store, pull over! Don’t block traffic while your passenger gets out of the car.

But I got my shopping done and also managed to make a donation to the local food pantry.  Too many hungry people on Long Island …

My grandmother, of blessed memory, was a widow raiding three young children, collecting welfare and often working under the table to support her family, but who always felt she had to collect good donations “for the poor people”.  Not for herself, but for others.  I donate to food pantries to honor her memory. So many hungry people this year…

Anyhow  the supermarket is starting to feature holiday fare — stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin, gravy —  a reminder that Thanksgiving is coming.  A couple of stores are running “free turkey” promotions — spend a certain amount of money and your turkey or ham is free.   Time to plan the Friendsgiving menu.

Ever hear the phrase “double occasion”?  It means the first time you do something is also the last time you do it.  Well, I tried this:

It wasn’t terrible, I obviously drank it, but … the lime taste is very strong, a bit overpowering.  Not worth buying again.

The rest of my grocery haul was pretty boring.  Though after that discussion on Saturday 9 I felt compelled to buy potatoes.  The power of suggestion.  Maybe I’ll roast them later this week, or cook them in the air fryer.

On the way home I saw a vintage car.

Drew says it’s a Chevy from the 1950’s.  Cool.

  1. Potatoes in the air fryer... Hmmm... Just got an air fryer (in September, but it's still new to me), and I've been trying various things in it. (I want to try s'mores.) I had not thought of potatoes, but now it sounds obvious.

  2. Opossums eat snails and slugs out of lawns. They do leave marks though. My brother thought they were just doing it for no reason (well, he is a conservative, who doesn't bother to research before acting), so trapped and relocated them. Then his lawn was full of snails and slugs. We have them here, but I see raccoons more often (in the yard and popping in and out of sewers) and I wouldn't mess with them.
