More this and that

I’ve mentioned several times that Drew and I are members of the New York Wildlife Conservation Society, the organization responsible for the Bronx Zoo, and that we’ve been to the zoo many times.

I had an early-morning doctor’s appointment Friday.  I decided to wear the shirt I bought at the zoo last May. It’s a great shirt, it’s got a picture of a rhino and says “Save the chubby unicorn”.

Drew was still asleep when I left the house.  He was gone when I came home, out running errands. So you can imagine my surprise when Drew came home and I saw that he was wearing a souvenir t shirt from the Bronx Zoo.  We really must be on the same wavelength.

As for my doctor’s appointment … he is very pleased with me.  I got on the scale at his office … the last time I saw that number was in 1985.  I’m in better shape now than I was 10 years ago.

Which is so important.  I’ve seen far too many of my friends lose mobility, even independence, and I don’t want to go down that road for a long, long time.

I really can’t believe we’re coming down to the final days of summer.  There’s still so much I want to do!   We’ve got a few more Ducks games lined up, and we have plans to go to the Renaissance Faire.  And I’d like to spend a day on the East End, visiting the wineries and farm stands.  We haven’t done that in a few years.

And of course we’re doing a barbecue Labor Day weekend.

We didn’t take a vacation this summer.  We’re going on a road trip in September. Destination: Williamsburg, Virginia.

Yes, we are history geeks.  We visited Colonial Williamsburg back in July 2012, and loved it so much we decided a repeat visit was warranted.  But summer in that part of Virginia is extremely hot and humid,  but September weather is much more pleasant.  Let the planning begin.

  1. How nice. Great to get out of town after the summer rush. For me, summer is over. School starts on Monday.

  2. I answered your Sat 9. My parents went to Colonial Williamsburg and brought me back a cookbook that I still have. My dad had to meet with the Sec. of HUD and they would visit other places while out there. They visited several museums in DC too.

  3. Enjoy your upcoming trip. When I worked full time we would take vacations the week of Labor Day, arriving on Labor Day. Amazing how places would just clear out, Best of all, the motel prices dropped (not any more) but sometimes places we wanted to see closed down, too.

  5. Great time of year for a trip. Cooler temperatures, and fewer people with school being in session. Take a lot of pictures to share with us!
