Happy September, and the start of fall …
Happy first day of fall!
While an astronomer will tell you that fall doesn’t arrive until the autumnal equinox (that’s September 22, three weeks from today), a meteorologist will tell you that today is the first day of fall.
Of course, we don’t get the real fall weather until early October, and the fall foliage doesn’t peak until the end of October/beginning of November.
But fall produce — apples, pumpkins, etc. — is already showing up in our markets.
And if you want to discuss social constructs — our beach/pool season starts at Memorial Day weekend and ends on Labor Day, and our public schools reopen right after Labor Day.
Though businesses … well, Starbucks introduced its fall menu last week, and Home Goods started selling Halloween merchandise in July …
Some years I want to hold onto summer, but this year summer never really got started … and I think I’m ready for the change …
School started for us three weeks ago. I remember the good ol' days when we started after Labor Day. Sigh.
