More this and that

We were at the Ducks game on the 4th of July, so obviously we weren’t home to watch the Macy’s fireworks.  We DVR’d the show to watch later.  I expected to be disappointed — while the fireworks are supposed to be wonderful live (I’ve never seen them live), the tv presentation has been lacking.  And the show lived up to — or rather, down to — my expectations.

We also DVR'd the show from the Capitol in Washington.  That show was much better.  The folks at Macy’s should take note.

OMG the rudeness of some people!  Sunday afternoon the landlord at our current address called, he wanted to bring prospective tenants to see the house.  OK, that’s not a problem.  He showed up a few minutes later with a couple and their tween daughter.  The mother had a small dog in her arms.  SHE BROUGHT THE DOG INTO MY  HOUSE.  She didn’t ask if it was alright with me, just marched in with her dog.  Duchess and Shadow were not amused. Duchess hid under the bed.  Shadow hid under the couch.

I almost feel sorry for my slumlord landlord.  He’s trying to find tenants for two houses.  If he were a better landlord … but in a few days he won’t be my problem anymore.

Sunday at the new house … the property manager brought the contractors, who made all the necessary repairs.  We’ve been bringing things over to the house, and the moving company will take the furniture on Saturday,

And yes, the crazy cat lady already marked her territory.

I’m really getting excited for the move.

I think the cats are going to like the new house, Shadow is going to love that big window.  It’s a whole new street to watch.

I’m still getting emails from various websites asking if I’m  looking to rent a house.  Imagine my surprise when I got an email asking me if I’m interested in … the house where the landlord wanted “something better” than yours truly.  But it’s from a different broker than the one we dealt with,  I don’t know if the broker fired the client or the client fired the broker, but apparently they did part company.  Can’t imagine why …

Wedding update:  I found an outfit for the pre-wedding meet-and-greet. It’s similar to the one I saw on clearance but wasn’t able to buy.

And now for the “feel creepy” news.  I mentioned the drunk driving accident, the one that killed four people in the nail salon.  Well, the day after the accident they identified the driver as being from my home town.  And he’s the same age as I am … I couldn’t help but wonder … yeah, he and I went to high school together.  He was in my graduating class.  I didn’t know him, but that’s not unusual.  There were close to 1,000 students in my graduating class.

It’s a sad story.  His older brother died when the brother was in high school and we were in junior high.   Later he joined the Marines and married his high school sweetheart (I don’t know her either).  Eventually they got a divorce and he moved in with his parents.  When they died the house was sold and he’s been living in various motels for about a year or so.  He had a DUI conviction 10 years ago.  The photos taken at the arraignment — he looks a lot older than someone who could be my classmate.

Yeah, any time I feel like my life didn’t turn out the way I expected … I guess it all turned out ok …

  1. The me who thinks of things later would say, "I have cats, you need to leave the dog outside." But, really the me who hates to confront people (except during COVID when they were stupid) wouldn't have. Cute yard signs! My Benny looks like that cranky faced black cat on the bottom of the right-hand sign.
