Weird location for a house!

 Every time I drive through the neighborhood the old house captures my attention.  It’s an old farmhouse, dating back to when this community was still rural.  There’s nothing remarkable about the old house, except for its location.

The house is surrounded on three sides by land belonging to the local elementary school.  The school was built in the 1950’s, when the community rapidly transformed from sleepy farming town to modern suburb.  The house is much older than the school.  Zillow says the house was built in 1875.



I marked the location of the house on the Google map photo.  See how the school driveway and parking lot encircle the house?

It’s an odd place for a house.  The school website mentions the house when discussing the school’s history.  I’m sure the farmer who built the house owned the land that’s now the school and the park, and probably some of the neighborhood houses are on the former farm as well.  I can’t help but wonder why the house wasn’t torn down when the school and the adjacent park were developed.  I’m sure there’s an interesting story …

found a new blog today. Love it. http://secret-squirrel.webs.com/index.htm I've posted there under various names over the last 10 years or so. it went from a sweet little board that was Pete Werner's hobby to ....well, a real nightmare. that a board devoted to all things Disney can be such a nasty, racist, childish (not childlike) place.... loving the inside scoop, though. Even booked my trips through Dreams Unlimited, back when Pete was careful to distinguish between the disboards as a hobby and Dreams as his business. Music Monday

Another “your choice” week. How about new music from icons of the 60’s and 70’s? Let’s start with Jimmy Buffett’s posthumous hit, “Bubbles Up”. The Rolling Stones released a new song in 2023, it’s called “Angry”. The surviving Beatles (with some  help from AI) released “Now and Then”. And then Billy Joel …    The AI effects in the video blew me away… A note about the AI effects … the Beatles used it to isolate John’s vocals on an old demo.  Billy Joel had a young man play the piano then superimposed his own face onto the image of the younger man.
