Saturday 9

Touch Me in the Morning

Welcome to Saturday 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Touch Me in the Morning (1973)

Unfamiliar with this week's song? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Diana Ross sings that nothing good lasts forever. Do you agree?

Yes

2) She sings about a happy past with her lover, and the strength she'll need to face tomorrow alone. Do you find yourself more often remembering the past or anticipating the future?

I’ve reached an age where there’s a lot of “past” to reminisce about.

3) In the 1970s, Diana Ross had young daughters. To spend maximum time with her girls, she would sleep all day when they were in school. That way she could have dinner with them, bathe them and put them to bed before going to the studio and recording all night. Have you ever worked the night shift?

No

4) Diana has five children altogether. There's a 16-year age difference between her oldest daughter, Rhonda, and her youngest son, Evan. Studies have shown that when there's a big gap between siblings, parents consider the older kids "built-in babysitters." In your family, were the older kids ever in charge of the younger ones?

Yes.  I have one sister who is a year younger than I am, and the twins are 7 years younger than me.  My parents would sometimes leave the four of us home alone, with the two older girls supervising the younger girls.

5) She says her favorite sweet treat is Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Cookies. Do you have a favorite cookie?

I have Celiac  disease,  I was diagnosed in March of this year, so I can no longer indulge in my favorite cookies.

6) Around the time she recorded this song, Diana Ross considered making a movie called The Bodyguard. She was to play a singer who received death threats, and Steve McQueen would portray the man hired to protect her. Scheduling conflicts prevented the movie from being made. It wasn't filmed until 1992, and then with different stars. Without looking it up, can you name stars of The Bodyguard

Whitney Houston starred in the movie, but I don’t remember the male star.  I do remember she sang that Dolly Parton song …

7) In 1973, when this song was #1, Norman Mailer was atop the best-seller list with his controversial biography of Marilyn Monroe. Do you often read biographies and memoirs?

Not really.  I think I’ve read a total of three such books over the last three years.  I read Alex Trebek’s memoir, Mary Trump’s book and then I re-read Anne Frank’s diary, which I’d read when I was a teenager.

8) Also in 1973, another Motown singer, Stevie Wonder, was injured in an automobile crash and still has a scar on his nose to show for it. Have you ever been in a car accident?

Nothing major, just a couple of fender benders.

9) Random Question: What's the last thing you borrowed or lent?

The dryer in my house is broken (waiting in the repair) so I borrowed a rack to hang up my clothes to air dry.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Join us on next Saturday for another version of Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday!" Enjoy your weekend!

  1. I wish I had the space for one of those drying racks. I'd be more likely to rinse things out in the sink, saving electricity and water.

  2. Bummer on the celiac disease. Somebody must make a decent gluten free cookie.

  3. I read quite a few books on people.
Coffee is on and stay safe.

  4. I know Trader Joe's has a bunch of gluten free cookies, especially chocolate chip. (The episode of The Food that Built America about Famous Amos mentioned that he had a bunch of stars finance his operation. I would not be surprised if Diana Ross was on that list.)

  5. The remembering does come a lot easier these days, doesn't it? Can't have your favorite cookies? Oh, man...that's rough!

  6. Sorry about your diagnosis. Think it's a lot of adjusting.
I always dry without a dryer. I put shirts and blouses on hangers and hang them in the winter at the open stairs to the attic.

    Have a great weekend!

  7. #2 Definitely, more memories than future happenings.
#7 Alex Trebek’s memoir sounds interesting! I listen to audiobooks more now because I can do other things while I liten to the book.
#9 My washing machine broke down and I got to buy a new one. I thought about getting it repaired but it is 31 years old and I think that I got my money’s worth out of it.

  8. Mary Trump is amazing. I have some of her books, too.
Sorry you have that unlovely disease. I don't but I've found that Pinterest has several amazing groups of people who share recipes both regular and gluten free versions. Some bakeries now offer gluten free cookies and other things as well.
